Remember my scene of the ornaments on the beach when I left for Christmas? ... well heres our little album of where we were.
Welcome ! .........on the top of Lobster Point sits Lobster Lodge..................
Come on in...........
This is where we have our morning coffee, and afternoon cocktails, and most meals.....
Jack loved this as his afternoon nap/ playtime scenery so much more than the cold in Chicago.
We spent most mornings in the pool after a long walk around the point and local beaches
Christmas Eve... Santa Jammies, Lantern out ...... Santa is coming to the Caribbean!!
Christmas Day- on our way to neighbors for Christmas toast prior to supper.
We hosted Boxing Day Lunch- I made a cake and decorated it with tropical flowers- the view is spectacular and we had a full moon during that visit and the evening suppers outside were so gorgeous. We would watch the cruise ships go out to sea- the Queen Mary 2 and Crown Princess were there over Christmas.
The Island of Grenada is the most unspoiled tropical island I have ever been to. You can literally walk on the beaches in the mornings and find large conch shells, see turtle tracks and find waterfalls to swim in and reefs to explore.
The island suffered terribly over the past few years recovering from two severe hurricanes. Emily and Ivan both were devastating to this poor little island in the West Indies just above Venezuala. The local natives are such lovely and gracious people. They lost so much yet keep their spirit and Faith through it all. Most of them lost their homes, and the local economy is mostly spices and their own produce. Their land was devastated and it was very difficult for them to even find food or water until the Red Cross arrived.
Many countries have come together and helped Grenada rebuild with pride. The were the host of the ICC Cricket World Cup last March and had a stadium and new roads and signage put in place to host this event. This was all done for the benefit of the island and to find a way to use sport as a way to bring them together and help. I feel that when all of us travel it is our duty to help support the locals just as we do at home Especially places like this.
When we are in Grenada we purchase as much as possible from the locals and to patronize their businesses. It is easy to go to a large supermarket there- but its the spice market, local fruit stand, and country markets that we love to go to.
If anyone wants to know more about what it is like to vacation there- I would love to tell you in the event you are looking for a very special place to go! Nice news too is that their dollar is 3 to the US ! So a nice place to go with your dosh- which is rare these days.
