The trip to DC was so much fun! It was my first time away from home alone since I had Jack and of course I missed him, but it was a real treat to be able to go everywhere with a handbag and in shoes with heels and in cabs.... sans diaper bags, flats, and carseats for a weekend!
I stayed with my little sister, Erin, an amazing Lobbyist on the Hill. I am so proud of her and she is so cute and smart and fun.
I tried a few of the new hot spots in DC including Blue Duck Inn at the Park Hyatt and Belga- ( awesome Belgian on Capitol Hill)-
Saw many good friends and also relaxed by the pool and went to an Antique Show w/ Erin on Sunday morning.
I am planning two new weddings as well and met with both while there as well. We came up with awesome ideas and I am so excited- each is going to be so cool and they are both drastically different. Will share more another day.
Now the Wedding!...
It was really super fun and absoultely gorgeous! I did not take any detail shots which I should have so you could see more of the amazing arrangements, tablescapes, and all of the special touches. There were 3 different shaped tables and the dance floor was laid out in a diamond shape rather than a square. This gave more floor space for tables as well as lended itself to use rectangular tables for larger groups- ( 12-16 guests) angled along the dancefloor as well. The floor plan was the key base on which to layer visual interest. 3 different shaped tables also offers the opportunity to do 3 different looks. Coordinated linens and overlays, but not all the same. Rectangular tables had long "runners" of summer fruits, grapes, apricots, figs, all cascading from silver compotes and clustered around the base of taller containers such as glass bell jars, and candleabras.
The florist that did this wedding is the same floral designer that did mine and it was such a treat to see him and we danced and laughed alot- he is as funny as he is talented.
I hope that you can see some of the decor in the backround of these pics-
I always say that there are about 3 main take- aways from a wedding- this was was the red wax lips that they passed out through the dancefloor at the end- it was very humorous and funny and tastefully done- everyone laughed and loved it. The candy bar with old fashioned candy set up in the foyer as guests left- and the officiant who inserted loving humor into the ceremony that I have never seen done that way before and it really gave everyone a happy close feeling about the event and the couple prior to the festivites.
I must add that this was the most photographed wedding I have ever attended- but that is what happends when you are the daughter of one of DC/NY's most well known photographers for the past 3 decades. ( her father was my wedding photog as well). I included a pic that I thought was funny and that no one probably thought of to take and that is one I got of all 5 photographers on the dancefloor covering the toast of the Father of the Bride....
It was a great time and I am so glad I went! It is good to be back home with my boys now though!
